After reading my tutor’s report on the book cover above that I submitted for assignment 2, I decided to make a small but significant change by adding a 3D element as can be seen in the cover below which I feel is more photographic and likely to entice the eye!
The new photo on the cover is a long range image of the actual hill, Bubb Down Hill, that Hardy mentions at the beginning of his The Woodlanders novel. While I felt this to be a definite improvement on the first image submitted which has a traditional feel possibly in keeping with Hardy’s Victorian view, I decided to take the redo a bit further.
This final view again seems an improvement. The small, framed inset image, references the shape of the Daguerrotype, a popular form of photographic reproduction of the time that the novel was written. The better presentation of this Daguerreotype then led to the removal of the framed edges …
